For two years now, we have been organizing Christmases for the orphans of Finderrance. These are important moments of sharing for these orphans, who for the most part have never had the opportunity to celebrate Christmas.
DISTRIBUTION OF GIFTS WITH MEANING
Each year, thanks to our donors, we give each child a gift: teddy bear, doll, car, dinette, etc. Before giving these gifts, we always take the time to ask them what they would like to receive. Our goal is to make them happy but also to meet specific needs.
In 2018, most college students asked us for umbrellas. Surprised at this request; we asked them the reason for their choice. The explanation touched us enormously. They told us that during the rainy season, it was very difficult for them to walk to school. They often arrived in class drenched and with notebooks and books that had become unusable for the day.
The air being extremely humid in this season, they were forced to dry their notebooks and books for several days, without really having access to the study. The college of these orphans is located in Ouragahio, far from their village of residence; unlike elementary schools. It was after this anecdote that we made the decision to create a first reception center, which would allow them to considerably reduce this distance.
This year, the kids asked for comics; curious to see in image the animated people who had seen when they had the chance to watch television. Most of the middle school students asked us for books. We saw in this request a first battle won: our orphans are interested in reading and want to educate themselves. We are convinced that education is one of the first weapons against poverty.
SHARING AN ESSENTIAL MEAL
These moments are also a way of ensuring that children receive a hearty meal. During the holidays, children are returned to foster homes. Although we do weekly rounds in each family, the organization of this Christmas allows us to have all the children in one place and to better manage this moment of sharing.
DISTRIBUTION OF LIVING TO HOST FAMILIES
We have also distributed food to the homes for the orphans. Ensuring the food security of our orphans is a priority for us.
