Our response to the health crisis: The caravan against COVID-19

The coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) has led the entire international community to put in place a health plan. The CDC has recommended that world leaders place their country under quarantine to contain the spread of the virus. On March 23, 2020, the Ivorian authorities declared a state of emergency and recommended the population to confine themselves.

OUR HUMANITARIAN ACTIONS RALIENTIATED BY THE COVID-19 EPIDEMIC

The cessation of international flights to Abidjan prevented the founder of the association from going there. The objective of this trip was to make an inventory of the college reception center which is located in Ouragahio. This center was inaugurated at the end of 2019.

CLOSING OF OUR RECEPTION CENTER

The national containment recommendation has resulted in the successive closure of schools across the country; including schools in the villages where we operate. Orphans, who receive three meals a day through collaboration with school officials, have seen their ration reduced. Our reception center was also closed and all the schoolchildren who lived there had to be sent back to their respective villages. Coordination to ensure food security for orphans has been turned upside down.

OUR ACTIONS TO SUPPORT ORPHANS IN DESPITE THE EXPECTIONAL SITUATION

We support 68 orphans today.

In our regular weekly organization, each week we visit orphans in primary classes who stay in school in their village school. The reception center in Ouragahio brings together the orphaned school children we support.

We had to redouble our efforts to organize a larger round: the schoolchildren sent back to the villages should also receive our support.

In order to strengthen our support for these orphans, we organized a round in all the villages where we act: The Caravan Finderrance Against COVID-19.

We distributed to the families welcoming the middle school students:

  • 200 masks
  • 100 soaps for laundry
  • 100 packs of 3 soaps
  • 100 5kg bags of rice
  • 100 boxes of Salt
  • 100 bottles of oil

We would like to thank our team on site for their work as well as all the donors who enabled us to put this action in place! We must continue our efforts in order to be able to meet the needs of the orphans we support.
